The institutional law of international organisations comprises those rules of law that govern their legal status, structure and functioning. The course content includes six blocks, each combining ex-cathedra introductory lecture (in total 15 hours) and equivalent discussion sessions (the rest 15 hours) with elements of active learning (presentations, roundtables, sketchnoting etc.). Legal issues of international organisations are relevant in multiple contexts. The course main objective is to endow students with the knowledge and a critical understanding of the institutional life of intergovernmental organisations (IGOs). Emphasis will be especially put on the UN family of organisations, specific regional IGOs, the relationship between these organizations, and finally the elements of supranationality in such settings. Attendance and participation in discussion sessions are compulsory.
