Introduction to Legal English  with elements of  Law Enforcement  is a course for learners who need to use specialized language in their studies and/or work. Suitable also for self-study, the course prepares learners for using English in different areas of law environment  and  law enforcement. It is divided into four semesters. 

The following topics are covered during the 1st semester  [1/4] of the course :

  • Introduction : Why study legal English? / a career in law / essential terms & concepts
  • The Practice of Law : bodies of law / types of laws / courts & court structure | legal education & profession | Language Focus
  • Contract Law : how contract is made / breach of contract & remedies / contract clause / conditions & warranties | Language Focus

  • Commercial Law : trade vs. commerce / profile of a commercial lawyer / internships / letter of application (for an internship) | Language Focus 
  • Real Property Law : personal property vs. real property / right of use, control and disposition / tenancy agreement | Language Focus 
  • Litigation & Arbitration : forms of dispute resolution / parties & phases / ADR / avoiding litigation (financial burden and other factors) | Language Focus
